Grubbhub: Virtual Restaurants
Grubhub Virtual Restaurants
Grubhub is a food ordering and delivery marketplace that connect diners with local restaurants. Grubhub aims to make ordering food as easy and stress-free as possible.
Hoping to create a thought leadership piece, Grubhub was interested in creating an interactive "sneak peek" experience that would engage users to download a full whitepaper. Due to the pandemic, the food industry saw a shift towards pickup and delivery services, which in turn led to the evolution of virtual restaurants. The project aimed to introduce the concept of virtual restaurants and how they work, the various types of VR concepts, how Grubhub could help, and a call-to-action to download the whitepaper.

Beginning the process:
Working closely with our internal team (content strategist & creative director), we created a stylescape, an interactive toolkit mode up of modules that Grubhub can utilize and iterate upon. We also proposed two concepts to the team: one with a story-progression layout and another with a more straightforward instructional outline. Deciding to go with the latter option, I began the project creation phase. To reflect Grubhub’s fun and whimsical branding, I knew animations would be key - an element not necessarily expected but definitely welcomed.

Collaboration with the team:
Working with the Grubhub team was a delight. I had the opportunity to collaborate closely with their hands-on team, meeting on a weekly basis over the course of a month, allowing us to stay aligned in the progress, gather feedback, and discuss any changes to the project. Collaboration was super smooth with the Grubhub team allowing us to take the reigns when it came to layout and design and only had wonderful things to say throughout the whole process.

Key Takeaways:
Throughout our 30-day period working with Grubhub, three themes seemed clear: collaboration plays a key role in the success of a project, simple and straightforward is often the best path, and just a reminder to have fun and enjoy the process! In the end, working with the Grubhub team ran smoothly resulting in a playful and engaging experience that not only met needs but exceeded expectations.
